This has been a very special year for my family and one that I’ve been deeply grateful for. It marks the culmination of a nearly decade-long journey that began in 2015. In 2015, Emily and I decided to leave the NYC metro area, where we’d lived for about four years, and return to northern Virginia to be closer to our families.
At the time we were beginning to think about having kids (we now have two!) and I wanted to live closer to my dad, who had been living by himself since my mom passed away in 2008. I’d always dreamed about living in a multigenerational Encanto-like house filled with kids and grandparents.
Finally, it happened this year! In the span of 6 months, we bought a new house with enough space for everyone, moved in, sold our first home, remodeled the basement and welcomed my dad into our household permanently. Our Christmas photo had one more person this year.
I’m deeply grateful that we found the perfect home at the perfect time and all the stars aligned to make this possible. Sharing our home with my dad fulfills a promise I made to both my mom and myself. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone 🙏.
